The PVA "Mad Scientist" was named by a group of customers who were highly impressed with the performance, fit and finish and ease of use that this brake afforded them. The ports are optimized for precision rifles and approved for use up to 300 Rem Ultra Mag to reduce recoil, aid in precision and shootability, ease of install and do it all without directing muzzle blast back onto the shooter, optics and neighboring folks on the line. Brake performance has been tested by an independent lab with a recoil sled to show well in excess of 40% total reduction of recoil travel, matching or exceeding the performance of other 1" diameter brakes... all without the back-blast associated from angled-port designs.
For larger magnum calibers we now make the "Rocket Scientist" muzzle brake found HERE.
The Mad Scientist uses a threaded collar in order to index the muzzle brake without additional machining work required on each barrel. It is also not 1-time use like other machine-timed brakes but rather can be used barrel after barrel after barrel, saving shooters significant money on each subsequent barrel that they purchase.
The brake uses (2) 15/16" wrenches to snug into place and does not need any thread locking agents to maintain position firmly locked to the end of the barrel for thousands of rounds of use. Most shooters elect to simply install it by hand for quick and easy removal when using a suppressor.
The Mad Scientist now comes in several of the most popular size muzzle threads on the US and European Markets
- 1/2-28 with 22 cal aperture (New)
- 5/8-24 with 30cal aperture (Standard)
- M18 x 1.0 with 30 cal aperture (New for Sako TRG platforms)
- M18 x 1.5 with 30 cal aperture (New for Accuracy International platforms)
Here is one such customer post on an online group:
"...got to try the mad scientist brake ... from PVA. Words don't do this thing justice. I could spot my own shots at 100, 200, and 300 like I never pulled the trigger. I didn't know that was possible! Fantastic brake and I won't put anything else on my rifle, ever. All my friends shooting their AR15s want to see if you make one for that!"
Well, now we do!

great 3 gun brake

I bought this brake after hearing about it from a bunch of friends running it on their long range rifles and decided I wanted to try it on my 3 gun rifle. It was a vast improvement over my last one. Even less recoil and much easier to acquire the next target during my 3 gun matches.

Better than the one's I took off.
I will order one for my 338L soon.
Do you make them for 50 cal??

Installed in minutes on 6.5 creedmor with 2 15/16 wrenches. Awesome design awesome machining. Seems to have reduced recoil by about 50 percent. Mad scientist is not obnoxiously loud and does not blow gas towards shooter or towards ground. Great product thanks again.
great product at a great price.

I own 2 mad scientist muzzle brakes. They are the best brake around for rhe money. Self timing is a huge plus. No shims required. Also very comfortable to shoot. Less blast than competitve options.
Excellent muzzle brake

I use the Mad Scientist in my .308 and 6.5CM rifles. Excellent muzzle brake with superb finishing, very easy to install (two wrenches and less than 2 minutes is all you need) recoil reduction is awesome, I would say around 50% in both calibers. I would recommend it to anybody looking for the best.
Can't beat this muzzle brake

I put alot of thought into purchasing a muzzle brake for my Ruger Precision rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. I've read alot of reviews and even tried a few out. I can tell you this thing works great! Shooting steel at 800 yards and having your crosshairs stay right on target and see the impact is something I couldn't do before I had this brake. I had shooters on my left and right, all of us in the prone position and nobody complained once while I was shooting. The install is also a breeze. No need to shim this brake because of the locking collar, alignment was so easy. Not all brakes are created equal. The Mad Scientist is a winner!
PVA MAD Scientist

I ordered this brake because I had another style from another company that I was disappointed with right off the batt. It was cheap and almost fell off during a match afyer 30 rounds. Afyer talking to some people I ordered the mad scientist. Right out of the box I could tell it was a whole different level of quality. Thick metal beautifully crafted and Shiney as could be. It was easy to mount and get lined up properly. First day at the range I could tell a difference. It was a whole world easier to stay on together and spot my own shots. With the non angled ports there was no back blast at all. I could not be happier with the fit and finish of the mad scientist and will order it for any future rifle that needs a brake. Shipping was also super fast. Thanks patriot valley for the fantastic product and excellent customer service !!!!

The Mad Scientist brake is very well made, easy to install (no timing involved) and has excellent recoil reduction properties.

I've used several different brands of brakes, and the PVA brake is my favorite hands down...you won't be disappointed.
