The Patriot Valley Arms Barrel Nut System is designed for the DIY barrel change enthusiast. This barrel nut allows for a Tikka T3 owner to install a new barrel on their receiver in a matter of minutes with a modicum of tools. There is no need to send the receiver off to a custom gunbuilder for months waiting installation in many cases. The replacement barrel nut and pre-machined match rifle barrel blanks from Patriot Valley Arms provide a direct pathway for DIY shooters to work on their own rifles. Caliber changes, multi-caliber platforms for varmints, targets and big game are all available with this approach. Our barrel nut is designed to be used with straight shank barrels that we produce.
We strive for the utmost in quality in our product lines and this barrel nut system is no different. The pieces are manufactured from aerospace-grade alloys and case hardened using a ferritic nitrocarburizing process for longevity in use.
The design is laid out specifically to reduce the cost of ownership, especially when it comes to the bespoke wrench used for installing the barrel nut. The wrenches are designed to be used as a crow-foot with 3/8" square drive torque wrenches.
There are 2 lengths of barrel nuts. A hunting contour nut is designed to be used for barrels that are going back into a factory hunting inlet with a short shank. The Match Contour nut is designed for those using chassis systems or heavier match barrels where a longer barrel nut can fit into the existing inlet. The short hunting inlet nut does not have a thread "hood" to cover any potential gap of exposed threads on the barrel. This is done specifically to aid in fitting the inlet on a hunting stock.
We have revised and strengthened the crow foot included with the barrel nuts. The new barrel nut has been strengthened to improve ease of use but it MUST be used with a torque wrench to avoid over-tightening the nut. The original design was laid out to act as a torque limiting device for folks without a torque wrench. This older design require a lot more care to be used when tightening the barrel nut to avoid stripping the wrench at premature torque levels. The updated wrench is much thicker and tighter tolerance but it can now easily exceed the recommended installation torques. We strongly recommend a torque wrench be used to install the barrel nut.
Recommended installation torque is 30-35 ftlb
